Craniosacral Therapy for Infants, Children and Youth

Every change, be it conception, pregnancy, birth, starting school and other occurrences, means a transition to a new phase of life. Thus, every change could triggers positive or negative stress which the body and soul must process. If for some reason this is not possible, physical or spiritual imbalance may result.

The conception and development of a child is a formation process influenced by many factors. It is possible that the effects of strong forces which are not compensated for may lead to distortion in a child’s structure, e.g. in tissues and bones, even in the womb.

According to biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, the body is supported by a force which maintains and promotes health. Thus, a child’s body sometimes needs only a small impulse or a reminder in order to activate its powers of self-healing. Changing direction towards health is possible at any age.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle treatment method which encompasses the whole child and all of its needs. Careful and healing touch results in deep relaxation and the return of basic trust and security. This activates the ever present self-regulating forces and allows problems to be resolved.

A child’s nervous system is not fully developed at birth and needs a healthy environment, or rather the balanced nervous system of an adult carer, in order to regulate and develop healthily. Therefore, depending on the age of the child the family may also be included in the treatment. This could mean that the Craniosacral treatment takes place in the arms of a carer such as mother or father; or playfully lying down; or sitting on the floor or treatment bench.

The following list gives examples of administrations of Craniosacral Therapy for children:

  • Resolving traumas related to birth, e.g. caesarean, twisted umbilical cord, anaesthetics
  • Children who cry often
  • Kiss –Syndrom
  • Hypertension
  • Follow-up treatment after accidents or serious illnesses
  • Squinting
  • Disrupted or delayed development
  • ADS/ ADHS ( Attention-Deficit-Syndrome/ with hyperactivity)
  • Problems at school
  • Accompanying treatment for the regulation of teeth and jaws
  • Problems with posture, Scoliosis
  • Frequent infections
  • Pain, such as headaches and rheumatic pain

Craniosacral Therapy can be applied at any age. It is also highly recommended to undergo treatment during pregnancy. This will promote the mobility and elasticity of the pelvis as well as an optimal birth process and the pre-birth relationship with the child.
